Invite to Big Draw at Wakehurst Thursday 6 and Saturday 8 OctoberMEDIA INVITED TO PRE-LAUNCH EVENT on Thursday 6 October, or the FIRST PUBLIC DAY, Saturday 8 October. Tel 01444 894055 to arrange. Kew's botanic garden in West Sussex is set to be transformed into an art venue during October as it hosts a range of events in support of the national Big Draw event. There is a pre-launch day on Thursday involving local schools in the run-up to the public days. Working with “Kartoon-Kings” Grennan and Sperandio, Wakehurst Place, near Ardingly, is staging events over three Saturdays in October, the 8th, 16th and the 22nd. Artists of all ages and all abilities, are invited to join in the workshops which will be located around the 180-acre gardens. Activities are drop-in and will run between 10am and 4pm. Among the options for budding artists to get their hands on is the Well Routed workshop where a life-size tree outline will be created, on the ground, using natural materials available such as sand, chalk, charcoal and woodland debris. The pros Grennan and Sperandio will start it off, but it's up to visitors to complete a mammoth mural by adding personal nature paintings, inspired by sights, scenes and materials at Wakehurst. Other activities focus around the microscopic study of seeds and plants, a mystery trail and individual drawings. Activites are FREE to garden visitors.
