Save Plants - Preserve Habitats - Recycle Your Mobile Phone

Recycle your mobile phone and help raise money for vital conservation work

Take an easy step towards helping the environment, while raising money for Kew’s vital conservation work.

With an increasing demand to own the latest technology, the number of mobile phones purchased and disposed of each year is rising rapidly. In the UK alone, there are 20 million discarded mobile phones*, the equivalent of 2000 metric tonnes of potentially toxic waste when sent to landfill.

Mobile phones discarded in landfill sites can leak cadmium, lithium and mercury from their batteries, potentially poisoning the ecosystems around them. At the waste transfer stage they can also give off toxic fumes when incinerated – so correct and safe disposal of your old mobile is essential.

By recycling your mobile phone you will be helping the environment and supporting Kew’s conservation work. For every mobile you recycle with SHP Limited on behalf of Kew, we will receive a donation.

PLEASE DO NOT SEND YOUR MOBILE DIRECTLY TO KEW. Simply request your freepost mobile recycling bag by contacting us at getinvolved@kew.org - be sure to include your name and postal address.

For more information on the recycling scheme, and to find out where to send your mobile phone, visit ShP for Charity

Thank you for helping us to make a difference!
