Discovery Bus Driver

Hours of Work: Part Time - 936 hours worked on annualised hours contract (average 18 hours per week)

Job Status: Permanent

Salary per annum: £16,760 pro rata to 18 hours per week i.e. £8,380, Band B

Job Details

Kew hopes to relaunch its ’Discovery’ programme this autumn, offering groups of people with mobility problems tours of the gardens in comfort and style.  The Discovery Bus, a specially adapted minibus, will take groups of up to 14 people around the perimeter of Kew’s 300 acre site throughout the year. 

The Discovery programme is seen as a major part of Kew’s commitment to linking with the community and providing greater access and visitor care.  The service is intended for a wide range of groups:  social clubs, day-centres, residential homes, hospices, hospitals, schools, etc, enabling those with severe disability, sight-impairment, terminal illness, mental health problems, etc. to enjoy a day out at Kew.

You will operate and drive the Optare Alero mobility vehicle (Discovery Bus) enabling groups of up to 14 people with a variety of special needs and their carers to enjoy the gardens. You will supervise the daily running of the vehicle and the Volunteer Discovery Bus drivers.

ESSENTIALS:

Full clean Manual Passenger Carrying Vehicle (PCV) licence – Category D1 as well as previous experience of driving a passenger carrying vehicle
